Welcome to my new home!

I've been working hard all weekend and the fruits of my labor (so far) are now revealed! I've been trying to settle down in my new home on the internet and I do still have some more work to do. You'll notice more when you venture into my archive pages, but with my html and css files pretty much the way I want them I don't think it'll be too hard to fix those another day.

MovableType has an interesting plugin that handles templates which is called StyleCatcher. In order to save myself some headache down the road I decided to keep my css and html files in the same format as their initial templates. I tweaked my css file to look similar to my old site though. I still have some more tweaks to go as I continue to update the areas where I can change the layout. Actually I think this is the coolest part of the file, I only have to really change one line of code to change between two column and three column formats. The only thing I really kept outside of their format was my banner. I've never really liked how css has ever handled my banner images so I put it directly into my html file instead.

I'm also unveiling my new banner! I think the new and improved 'heidi go seek' banner is quite stylin'. I'm extremely proud of my limited Photoshop skills. The picture is one of my favorites, taken this summer on our camping trip the the Upper Peninsula. The lighthouse is the Crisp Point Lighthouse on Lake Superior and our favorite spontaneous stop the whole trip. Someday I promise to get the rest of our UP pictures up on Flickr for the world to see.

Of course there is a long list of things I should be doing instead of this. I was actually thinking today that I should be working on the website I need to be making for class, considering that one I'll be graded on.

My linklove link to your blog has been 404ing me for a couple of weeks now. Being snowed in today, I decided to find out why. I googled heidigoseek and your blog was no where to be found. I finally found a working link to you on your last.fm page. My link was trying to find http://www.heidigoseek.com/blog
which I figure no longer exists. I take it you quit BlogHarbor. Who are you using to host your site? I, too, have considered going to another host and platform. I am watching WordPress and BlueHost.

Sorry about that, I remember now that BlogHarbor adds that "blog" at the end of URLs :)

So you're snowed in? I really hope that misses us here in Michigan, I'm rather enjoying our 70-degree days!

You are correct, I'm in the process of quitting BlogHarbor. Not that I have anything against BlogHarbor, they're a great service, I just wanted to start hosting my own to see what that's like. I love it too, I have so much more flexibility with my site and I'm learning a lot in the process.

I'm with LivingDot and I'm using Movable Type. My friend is having issues with WordPress so I'm happy that I'm with Movable Type, other than the initial learning curve I haven't had any major issues here yet.

Anyway, glad you found me again!

One reason I want to switch is to be able to host a half a dozen different domains under one roof for a single monthly fee ($8/mo). I posted some snow pictures today http://www.artifactor.org/blog/_archives/2006/3/14/1820833.html
I thought of you when I found free blog hosting for librarians at
http://edublogs.org/ .

I've been really bad about getting to your site to look at your pictures. It looks like you got a lot of snow though! Our winter here has been disappointing, unfortunately.

I'm happy to have more space and be able to host multiple blogs. I can eventually set up my Sims blog using my domain name which will be easier to manage.

Thanks for the link, that's worth keeping track of, I might just post that on my blog.
